Dr Augusta Ogbene is a seasoned educator who commenced her illustrious career after completing a National Certificate in Education in 1974 from then former College of Education Abraka, Delta State Nigeria.


In 1978, she graduated from the University of Nigeria Nsukka with a bachelor degree with honours in Vocational Home Economics Education. 


With an immense drive for continued professional development,

she went on to complete a Master’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, U.S.A in 1980 and a Doctorate in Philosophy from the University of Nigeria Nsukka in 2003.

Her teaching career has equally been very progressive taking her to great heights and accomplishment. Starting at the St. Stephens Primary School Benin City, Edo State, she progressed through primary and secondary unto undergraduate and postgraduate lecturing.  Being dynamic female school Principal in the former Bendel State, she went on to serve in similar capacity for various other secondary institutions over a period spanning fourteen years. She served as lecturer, Senior Lecturer and Head of the Home Economics department at the former College of Education Igueben, Edo State transferring to Federal College of Education Asaba, Delta State where she served as Principal Lecturer and then Chief Lecturer in 2000.

Through these years she also served in various administrative, advisory, leadership and management capacities in the educational sector such as Membership of Academic Boards and Internal Management Committees as well as pioneering roles as Dean School of Vocational Education, Director of Academic Planning, Chairman, Result Verification Committee and Director for Quality Assurance.

Other significant positions held by Dr Ogbene include; Member of the Edo State Primary Education Board, External Examiner for various Nigerian Colleges of Education and Chief Examiner in Home Economics for the West African School Certificate Examinations from 1983 to 2003. To date she has membership of notable professional bodies which include the International Federation for Home Economics (IFHE), Home Economics Teachers Association of Nigeria (HETAN), Nigerian Association of Educational Media Technology (NAEMT) and the Home Economics Research Association of Nigeria (HERAN).

Dr Ogbene is an accomplished author and commentator in her field of Home Economics and of several articles, reviews, publications and books on topical national and international issues such as Women Development and Education, Alleviating Poverty in Nigeria, Child Labour, Water Pollution Management and Community Health.

Dr Ogbene is a devout Christian, married with children and grandchildren.
